My name is Christopher Murphy, and I am a Crossfit addict. Yes, this sounds like the result of an intervention or the start of group therapy, but it is one vice which I am happy to admit. Crossfit snared me in January 2013 from the globo-gym world and while I cannot remember my first WOD (“Workout Of the Day”), I do remember watching my first WOD demo from the Crossfit.com main site: 75 hand stand push ups for time. Uh, yea, I didn’t do that one. However, I stuck with watching the program from afar before deciding to implement main site Crossfit.com WODs into my workouts.
I was the guy who went to the gym regularly doing the same routine over and over again and seemingly getting no where. Sure, I saw some changes in my physique, but since I really didn’t know what I was doing, progress seemed slow and I usually saw strength gains plateau rather quickly. When my wife, Katie, suggested I look into Crossfit, it changed everything. I was hooked not only because of how great the workouts were, but also because of Crossfit’s definition of fitness and how it could be quantified, measured, and benchmarked over time. My entire perspective on fitness changed. Being able to quantify my fitness and track my growth was a huge motivating factor for me. I also discovered that my fitness goals in the long term translate into better overall health and well being, hopefully for the rest of my life.
Along my fitness journey, I discovered that access to a good coach is absolutely invaluable. In December 2013, my wife signed me up for the level 1 Crossfit certification class as a Christmas present. As a result, I earned the credential Crossfit Level 1 Trainer and I am excited to have the opportunity to be part of the coaching staff at Crossfit Nation. I hope to make a positive impact on other people’s fitness by imparting my knowledge and experiences through Crossfit training.
I am also a loving husband, father of two wonderful children, and a CPA working for an HVAC manufacturing company in Easton, MD.
